May 2010 - Design LED presenting at 2010 SID International Symposium

 

Dr. James Gourlay, CTO & Technical Director of Design LED Products, is presenting 2 papers at SID 2010.

 

The 2010 SID International Symposium runs from 23rd – 28th May, at the Washington State Convention Center, in Seattle. The conference, now in its 48th year, is an international gathering of experts in the electronic-display industry.

 

Design LED demonstrate energy efficient backlighting for the large area (> 40” diagonal) LCD television market. Side emitting LEDs are distributed in a 2D array across the surface of the backlight and embedded within the light-guide structure, providing optical efficiencies > 90%. The light-guide has developed in cooperation with ITI Techmedia, part of Scottish Enterprise.

 

A second paper presents a preliminary evaluation of the manufacturing platforms and technology demonstrators used in the manufacture of roll-to-roll displays. The work leading to these results has received funding from the European Community's Seventh Framework Programme under grant agreement n° CP-TP 228686.
